Illegal immigration: from India?

WASHINGTON - MAY 13: U.S. Secretary of Homela...Image by Getty Images via @daylifeWhat is the reason for Homeland Security anyway? It obviously is for the homeland or security. It seems strange to me that they are determined to make sure that the Superbowl is safe from Americans and yet they could care less if the rest of the county is secure from outside forces who we don't even know what their agenda is.
I find this article about illegal immigration extremely interesting. When I think about India, I think about overcrowding, I don't think about religious persecution, but that is what some of these people are claiming.
One quote from the article is from Sumit Ganguley, a political science professor and director of  the India Studies Program at Indiana University. He says "There is no reason to believe that these claims have any truth to them"
So what is the real reason? 650, mostly young men, from India, were caught in the last three months of 2010. That's just the ones that are caught. The article says that they are paying large sums, from 10,000 to 12,000 dollars. That is quite a bit of risk, not to mention the danger involved in paying human smugglers to bring them into the country.
What makes it even worse is that our government is just giving them a ticket and telling them to appear before a judge for a hearing and then releasing them. Where are they going and what is their real reason for coming here?
