I find this article about illegal immigration extremely interesting. When I think about India, I think about overcrowding, I don't think about religious persecution, but that is what some of these people are claiming.
One quote from the article is from Sumit Ganguley, a political science professor and director of the India Studies Program at Indiana University. He says "There is no reason to believe that these claims have any truth to them"
So what is the real reason? 650, mostly young men, from India, were caught in the last three months of 2010. That's just the ones that are caught. The article says that they are paying large sums, from 10,000 to 12,000 dollars. That is quite a bit of risk, not to mention the danger involved in paying human smugglers to bring them into the country.
What makes it even worse is that our government is just giving them a ticket and telling them to appear before a judge for a hearing and then releasing them. Where are they going and what is their real reason for coming here?
